New York, NY (February 22, 2008) - Anderson Kill recently obtained approval from the New York City Planning Commission for major improvements to The Rockefeller University.  The approval, an amendment to a plan for the campus previously approved by the City Planning Commission, will permit the University to proceed with its construction to enlarge and improve its research facilities.  A central element of the modernization program is the construction of the Collaborative Research Center, a facility created by joining two existing laboratory buildings with a structure that will contain spaces intended to bring scientists together to foster interdisciplinary cooperation.  The approval will enable the University to construct over 100,000 square feet of new buildings.

The Rockefeller University, founded in 1901, was established to conduct biomedical research to understand the underlying causes of disease.  It is one of the foremost research centers in the world, and has contributed to 23 Nobel prizes.  Among its accomplishments are demonstrating the connection between cholesterol and heart disease, finding the Rh factor in blood, and developing vaccines for meningitis.
